“Mercy and truth are met together” (Psalm 85:10).
Isn’t it interesting that these two precious attributes of the Lord meet together in this verse? God is truth and there are no lies in Him. Mercy is the amazing act of the Lord withholding from us what we really have coming. What a wise dad Lorenzo was. Before he trusted Christ as his Savior, oh what a temper he had. Slowly but surely after he trusted Christ, his temper subsided. This was demonstrated on the afternoon that his young daughter snuck into his dresser drawer to steal a dollar for the ice cream truck. Just as Susan Maria was putting the last bite of cone into her mouth, Dad came into the back yard. “What are you eating?” he asked his young daughter. She couldn’t answer because her mouth was full. Seeing the little bit of ice cream on the side of her face, he further asked, “So, I am sure that the ice cream was good. But where did you get the money?” Remorse struck the eight-year-old. That day truth visited her. But so did mercy. It was the mixture that she would never forget. How has God’s truth and mercy affected our lives?
For today: I am glad that our awesome God is a Lord of truth and mercy. How about you?
