“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me” (Psalm 3:5).
We believe that David wrote this Psalm when he fled from Absalom, his son. What a terrible time it was for David. Without even going into the reason for the rebellion, don’t you think that this would have to be among the absolute worst days of David’s life? I do. What would constitute the worst, I mean the absolute worst, day of your life? David actually was saying to us that he was able to do the impossible because of the presence of the LORD. The King could not lay down and sleep safely when being hotly pursued by those who wanted to kill him, yet he did just that. “I laid down and slept…for the Lord sustained me” (3:5). I am not saying that we live in denial of our troubles. I am saying, however, that no matter how big the situation is, our awesome God is far greater. We can trust Him today as we obey Him and follow Him.
For today: I am glad that I belong to the Lord. How about you?
