“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee” (Jeremiah 31:3).
I left you yesterday by telling you about poor Tim who was feeling so dejected. His wife had left him for another woman, and now he felt so confused, so empty, and so rejected. During his sorrow, he ran across Jeremiah 31:3. He was now asking his pastor if that meant that the Lord loved him forever. Tim couldn’t even look up. He just sobbed. There was silence in the counseling center. The pastor didn’t move until Tim looked up. Then the pastor put his finger up to his chin and squinted as if to be thinking about the matter. When Tim finally looked at the pastor eye to eye, Pastor Kenward slapped the desk with his open hand and screamed, “YES YES YES YES YES! IT DOES MEAN THIS, TIM. HE LOVES YOU FOREVER!” Well, poor Tim was so startled that he jumped a few inches and burst out laughing. What a great following half hour it was that day.
For today: Just embrace the glorious truth. No matter what has happened in our lives, the Lord loves us today, and He will tomorrow and forever.
