“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
Ernie came to church on a drunken dare. Many couldn’t remember Ernie being sober. Folks often took advantage of the town drunk. This would range from getting him to do things that made him look foolish to getting him angry. One Saturday night the local bar crowd watched Ernie get drunker and drunker. Somehow Ernie was coerced into going to church the next morning. “Angry Ernie,” as some referred to him, was still pretty under the influence as he entered the church. He was late, and the pastor was nearly half way into the message when in came Ernie. Everyone was distracted for a moment. However, quickly the pastor got the congregation back to his attention. The very next Scripture quoted was, you guessed it, “And it is appointed unto me once to die, but after this the judgment”! More about this tomorrow, but it is good for us to remember now that we too have an appointment.
For today: Keep me focused on You, Lord.
