“Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. He shall glorify Me…” (John 16:13-14a).
The wonderful ministry of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament era began on the Day of Pentecost, fifty days after the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. In this precious day and age, the Holy Spirit is the great Guider of the Lord’s people into the truths of the Word of God. One of His great ministries is to turn the spotlight onto the Lord Jesus so that He is glorified through the Word as well as in the lives of believers. A lady was invited to come to a Bible study with her neighbor. About half way through, she started to weep softly. The Bible teacher stopped and lovingly asked, “Are you all right, dear? We can’t help but see you crying. Can we help with something?” The visitor composed herself slightly and said, “You already have helped me. I am still new in the faith. I’ve been attending a church for a little over a year, and all I’ve heard about is the Holy Spirit. Today I am hearing about the Lord Jesus, and I can sense I am hearing the truth.” It was a really powerful moment. The wise Bible teacher seized that teachable moment and directed the ladies to John 16 to explore the true ministry of the Holy Spirit.
