“Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears” (2 Timothy 1:4).
We often think of the Apostle Paul as a “Type A” personality. Certainly Paul was a driven man who was relentless in His ministry and service to the Lord. But there is much more to Paul than just this. He was very wise to bring to his close side such a servant as Timothy. I am so blessed as I think of the tenderness and tears of Timothy as well as the great desire Paul had to see him. This tenderness is so needed in the lives of the Lord’s servants today. While it is important that we take our stand and hold firm our convictions in the Word, it is also important that we shed some tears as well. When we think of the horrible condition the lost are in as well as the suffering that many believers are enduring, it ought to cause some tears in the eyes of each person reading this devotional. (I’m including myself as well.)
For today: Timothy had tears in his service for Christ. When was the last time you and I shed tears?
