“But God, Who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us” (Ephesians 2:4).
As you read through the Word of God, often the word “but” is used to demonstrate a complete change of the situation. For instance, in our reading for today, Paul details the devastating place in which the Ephesians used to be. They were dead spiritually (2:1); they were disobedient (2:2); they were deceived (2:3). BUT….God is rich in mercy, and thus they were delivered (2:4-6). It doesn’t get any better than this, does it? I know that Paul is speaking in primary context to the Ephesian believers. However, he certainly is writing and describing our “before” and “after” spiritual condition as well. I am so glad that our awesome God is fabulously rich in every way, including mercy!
For today: You’ll never, never hear me say, “Give me what I deserve!” I most gladly rejoice in His mercy.
