“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
I’ve shared with you about Frank and Jackie driving to the hospital for the birth of their baby. Her labor had become intense quite suddenly. On the way to the hospital, with at least twenty-five more minutes until they would arrive at Mercy Hospital, their car had broken down. In desperation they had pleaded with the Lord for help. Before they had finished praying, Sgt. John Deluca was tapping on their window asking if they needed help. It was apparent that they couldn’t wait for the volunteer responders to arrive. Into his squad car they were helped, and off to the hospital they had gone with emergency lights and siren activated. In one of his calm professional radio transmissions, he had radioed, “Have Mercy ER standing by. We are less than fifteen minutes out, and we don’t want our third passenger to arrive before we arrive.” Dispatch had responded, “ER is standing by. Their team is waiting.” Twelve minutes later they pulled into the ER canopy of Mercy Hospital. Three nurses and the ER doctor met them at the door of the squad car. Their baby was born before they got to the ER cubical. Later that day, Sgt. Deluca stopped at the hospital where he was embraced by Frank and the family. “Sgt. Deluca, the hospital folks told us that your name is John. We have named our little boy ‘John,’ and I want to tell you about Romans 8:28 and how my car breaking down was the good thing the Lord did for us this morning.” It was a precious time.
For today: Maybe your Romans 8:28 moments won’t be quite this dramatic. But they will be just as precious as you watch the Lord working in your life.
