“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
Two families living right next door to each other are actually worlds apart today. Family A is caught up in the drama of Christmas parties, frenzied buying as they snatch items from the shelves (and sometimes from the hands of others!), and lying to their children as to who is bringing their Christmas presents. Throughout the season there is no thought of the true meaning of Christmas. But right next store, Family B is rejoicing in the true meaning. Every day they remember that Christmas is Emmanuel, God with us! Yes, Family B shops for presents and enjoys the gatherings of family and friends. But their determination to keep focused on Christ at Christmas is an entirely different world from Family A. Which family describes you at this time of the year?
For today: Lord, I want to glorify You in all that I do at this special time of the year. I celebrate the glorious fact that You are Emmanuel, God with us!
