“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).
It’s interesting to grow older. I am finding that I am forgetting things that happened in my recent past. However, I can remember things that happened fifty years ago or more. I recently came to Psalm 23 in my daily Bible reading. As I read this verse, I smiled, thinking back to a conversation I had with my Aunt Alice in her kitchen. I was just a young person and was helping her with as she prepared supper. We were talking about spiritual things. I remember asking her this question, “Why did King David say that he didn’t want the Lord to be his Shepherd?” She was very good with this young nephew of hers. I can see her smiling as she said, “Oh, Honey, David didn’t say that he didn’t want the Lord to be his Shepherd. He was saying that because the Lord is his Shepherd, he has no wants, or he isn’t going without anything he needs.” I never forgot that conversation, and now after many decades, I can tell you that because the Lord is my Shepherd I am not lacking in any necessity. There are things that I desire, but there are no needs that He leaves unfulfilled. You can trust your precious Shepherd. Karen and I often ask the Lord to go before us and lead us as our Shepherd. How wonderfully He answers this prayer.
For today: He the Great Shepherd. I love being one of His sheep. How about you?
