“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions” (Psalm 51:1).
This was written in one of the darkest and most painful moments of David’s life. Nathan the prophet has just confronted the king about his sinful relationship with Bathsheba. Under horrible conviction, David called out to the Lord. If you have time today, read the rest of Psalm 51. David confessed his sin and asked God’s forgiveness. You and I both know what it is like to sin and be under great conviction for our sin. With my personality it is easy for me to still feel guilty for my sin even though I have long ago confessed it and have been forgiven for it. How very important it is to remember God’s mercy, rest in His lovingkindness, and rejoice in His forgiveness.
For today: How will this all play out in your life today? Isn’t 1 John 1:9 a great New Testament verse to memorize?
