“Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers” (Proverbs 17:6).
Let me make a statement before our devotional today. In my forty-seven years of ministry, I have met people who, in my estimation, would have made wonderful parents; however, in the sovereignty and plan of God, that did not happen for them. Still they had a remarkable ministry to dozens of children both in the local church and in the local school system. So you can see that I do not believe you have to be a parent or a grandparent to have a profound effect upon the lives of children. But, I am a grandfather. I love being a grandfather. I often call my grandkids “my crown.” We have an unusual family scenario because we, at a very young age, adopted older children. Some of our grandchildren were the same age as our two youngest children. I’ll tell you about a funny situation with one of my “crowns” tomorrow. But for today, let me ask you this question. Is your life making the right kind of impact upon the life of a child? Ask the Lord to make your life count as either an encouragement to parents or a blessing to a child.
For today: The Lord certainly values the life of a little one. I need to value that life as well.
