“Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD” (2 Kings 18:1, 3).
Hezekiah was the son of King Ahaz. No two men could be any more opposite than these two. Ahaz walked in the ways of the apostate and wicked kings of Israel. He followed idolatry and committed horrific acts of sin. Following him to the throne would be his son, King Hezekiah. Opposite of his father, Hezekiah had a heart for the Lord and did great things for God. One might say that he was politically incorrect when he cut down the places of idolatry. What a great testimony is recorded of him in 2 Kings 18:5! There the Bible says, “He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.” I would like to have such a testimony of trusting obedience. Today is another opportunity to trust my great God even if it causes me to be politically incorrect.
For today: As the wonderful hymn puts it, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus; but to trust and obey!”
