“And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD and the king” (1 Chronicles 29:20).
Let’s think of what this verse is not saying. It is not saying that the people knelt down and worshipped the Lord and worshipped the king as well. So what is the verse saying? In a grand and powerful display of genuine worship, the people bowed down on their faces and worshipped the Lord. Their bowing took place in the presence of the newly anointed King Solomon. Wouldn’t you love to have witnessed this spectacular display of public worship? I have written in the margin of my Bible the following outline concerning worship. Worship in times of trials (Genesis 22:5); Worship always with honest tenderness (Psalm 45:11); Worship wisely with a sense of trembling (Psalm 96:9); Worship always in truth (John 4:24). I’m not sure when or where I preached this, but I know it is good for me today, and I think it will be good for you as well.
For today: I want to have a heart that quickly and frequently worships the Lord throughout the day. How about you?
