“I have set the LORD always before me: because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad” (Psalm 16:8-9a).
Elderly Marie lived in the home in which she was born. Though she experienced disappointment and heartache in her life, she knew the Lord as her Savior and sought to learn more about Him throughout the years. Now her physical life had deteriorated to the point that she could hardly walk. Her body was wracked with pain, and at times it was difficult even to breathe. She wasn’t “happy” about her circumstances, but she had “joy” that blessed the lives of others who met her. “How do you remain so joyful and optimistic?” she was often asked. “Well, life is not easy, but the Lord Jesus is always with me. I keep my eyes on Him,” would be her reply. It can be the same for us today as well. We may not be happy about our circumstances; however, we can have joy in the Lord. Ginny, a dear friend that Karen and I appreciate, often says, “Choose joy!” I think that’s a great idea. Marie would agree, I know.
For today: ‘Happy’ is based on things going well. ‘Joy’ is based on a relationship with the Lord Jesus. Do you know Him?
