“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil” (Proverbs 3:7).
You no doubt are very familiar with Proverbs 3:5-6. Many times we stop reading past verse six. There is a wealth of wisdom that will be ours if we embrace the teaching of Proverbs 3:7. The man who is wise in his own eyes often is arrogant, proud, boastful, and egotistical. You no doubt have met those who are wise in their own eyes. They know everything about everything, and in reality they have a lot more bluster than they do experience. Those who are not wise in their own eyes genuinely fear the Lord, and in that sense of awe for God, they run from evil. What a tremendous directive from God’s Word for you and me today.
For today: There is an old saying for those who are arrogant and proud. It is “They are too big for their own britches!” That’s not a good situation in which to be!
