Children are something. They really are.
Even parents who have the potential for making terrible mistakes in judgment truly love to give good gifts to their children. The Lord Jesus spoke in ways that people could really identify with and understand. Think of what He said.
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?” (Luke 11:13).
Every parent listening must have suddenly thought of the unwise moments of parenting that they had created, and yet they clearly understood how much they enjoyed giving good gifts to their children. The Lord Jesus used Matthew’s perspective that the Father gives good gifts (Matthew 7:11). He used Dr. Luke’s perspective that these good gifts are from the source known as the Holy Spirit. The Father loves to bless the lives of His children with good gifts through the working of the Holy Spirit, Who Himself is a precious gift received at the moment of salvation.
I’ve found over the years that sometimes really precious gifts from the Lord may not immediately appear as good gifts at first. More about this tomorrow!
I love to remember this: God is good all the time. He really is! His gifts are good and always serve a special purpose. What are some of the good blessings, the good gifts, that He has given to you?
