“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).
Pastor Kenward sat quietly in Studio A inside the complex of WXRL awaiting the beginning of a taping which would produce the Good News Report for the next two weeks. Sitting in the soundproof recording studio with a lot of equipment ahead of him and beside him, a very sobering thought once again came upon his heart. It always did.
“Soon, Lord,” he prayed, “I will record your Word and speak for You across the entire section of our state. Before I ask that my words be guarded by You, I need to once again ask that my heart will be guarded by You. So I wait before You,” he continued in prayer.
Soon they were counting down to the theme song, and then the taping began. The pastor spoke about the power of our words and how they could be pleasing or displeasing to the Lord. It was good for him as well as for all who listened.
While we might not be in a recording studio today, how will this challenge affect you and me right now? As believers we need to ask the Lord to help our hearts to be right as well as our words.
This is something for you and me to remember for today: When the lips speak, the heart is on display. It really is true. So may the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be pleasing to the Lord.
