“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock” (Acts 20:28).
Paul met with the Ephesian elders in a very tender setting and pleaded with them to “take heed.” These two words are actually just one Greek word, prosecho, which means “to turn the mind to, be attentive.” Pastor Kenward will never forget that night at church. Thunderstorms were around on that muggy Sunday evening. He just had a “funny feeling” about the weather. He brought a weather radio with him and asked the head usher and a few of the men to keep an eye on the sky and listen to the radio. Everyone was enjoying the guest speaker, and Pastor Kenward was enjoying sitting with his wife and family. About halfway through the message, suddenly the head usher was down at the second pew from the front of the church handing the pastor the following note: “Weather has turned severe. We are under a tornado warning. It’s heading toward us.” The guest speaker was a little surprised when the pastor immediately came to pulpit and issued the emergency procedure. Families with babies in the nursery were to immediately go to the nursery and head downstairs. The auditorium was to be evacuated through all four emergency stairwells as well as the main entrances down into the fellowship hall. I’ll tell you tomorrow what happened. God’s Word has warnings and even says, “Take heed.” I hope you will take His Word seriously.
For today: Don’t just read God’s Word. Believe it and obey it to be safe.
