“Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
To be looking for the Lord in the air doesn’t mean that we live in idleness and just stargaze. Rather, it actually gives wonderful motivation to live for Christ because of the confident expectation that belongs to the believer. Old “Uncle Charlie,” as he was called in the neighborhood, was a vibrant Christian who was active in his local church, consistent in his walk with the Lord, and devoted to sharing the gospel with those around him. One day he was asked, “What keeps you so upbeat in spite of all the trials you seem to be going through?” Thoughtfully he answered, “I’m in love! Yep! That’s it. I’m in love with the Lord Jesus, and every morning I tell him, ‘I’m expecting Your return today, so help me to live for You and serve You.’ Every night I tell Him, ‘Feel free to wake me up because I am expecting You to come before morning. So I can rest easy because I love You, Lord.’ That’s what makes me upbeat and serving!”
For today: May we be as wise as “Old Uncle Charlie”! As we are looking, may we still be serving!
