“I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied. For they have refreshed my spirit and yours” (1 Corinthians 16:17-18).
At the conclusion of his lengthy letter to the church at Corinth, Paul stated clearly that his life had been greatly blessed by the coming of these three men. There is some disagreement and discussion as to what the men supplied that was lacking. Rather than focusing on that, I want us to think about something very special. These three men “refreshed” Paul’s spirit. They were like a cold glass of water on a very hot day. I am convinced that you and I have the same opportunity today with folks around us. People will either be glad to see us coming because we encourage and refresh them, or they will think, “Oh no! Here he or she comes again!” Let’s take the challenge to be a source of refreshment to others.
For today: Our lives will touch many along the way. Some folks are very discouraged. May we be “refreshing,” like these three men.
