“Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to Thy mercy remember Thou me for Thy goodness’ sake, O LORD” (Psalm 25:7).
A sobbing fifty-one-year-old sat in Pastor Kenward’s office. “Pastor, even though I trusted Christ to be my Savior as a young person, I was not discipled. I was immature and have sinned horribly. I knew better, but I sinned anyway as a young man. It was wrong, but honestly, it didn’t seem that bad at the time. I have had years to grow and mature. I look back with horror at some of the things that I have done even as a Christian. I have regrets, Pastor. What am I going to do?” It was a question that seemed more familiar than Pastor Kenward wanted to admit. Many Christians are the last to forgive themselves sometimes. It was a tender conversation that the seasoned Pastor had with Clayton that day. It centered upon the precious topic of “God’s mercy.” Do you need the Lord’s mercy today?
For today: There is mercy with the Lord. He forgives when we confess our sins (1 John 1:9). But we also need to forgive ourselves as well!
