“These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
The Lord Jesus was speaking to His disciples on the night before He went to the cross for us. What an interesting word that the Lord Jesus chose to describe the situation that these men would encounter in their lives. He said, “In the world you shall have tribulation.” The idea of “tribulation” is to be “pressed, experiencing pressure, distress, and affliction.” Now friends, if that is all that the Lord Jesus said, that would be extremely discouraging. Think of what He further said, however. “But be of good cheer! I have overcome the world.” It is beyond words to know that we are His people and He has overcome the world. He is victorious and we win!
For today: Such knowledge might not take our problems away at this very moment; however, it does give us the changed perspective that we are indeed on the winning side. This is a great blessing indeed.
