Tis the day after Christmas.
How are you? Still have company or are you the company?
A long time after Jesus was born (some Bible scholars believe it could be up to two years), the wisemen arrived. Think of what Matthew told us.
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him” (Matthew 2:1-2).
What an amazing situation. The wise men traveled many miles from the east to come and worship the King of the Jews, and yet the Jewish religious leaders (Matthew 2:4) who would have to travel just a few miles apparently never put forth the effort to worship.
How unlikely was it that the Gentiles would go to great expense, experience the discomforts of rugged travel, and invest the time as well as the effort to come and find this child now in the house (Matthew 2:11). The question begs to be asked, “How much inconvenience am I gladly willing to bear to follow the Lord and worship Him?” Worship is not just a Sunday exercise. It is the daily surrender of my will to His will because of His worthiness.
I cannot escape this truth: May I be a wise person in the way I follow the Lord Jesus today.
