“The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth” (Psalm 33:5-6).
Dr. Kenward stood before his class of future pastors and church leaders who were enrolled in the counseling class he was teaching. At a given point in the Bible Institute lecture, Dr. Kenward asked the class to share what the number one thing to remember before every counseling appointment was. All of the answers were good. They ranged from adhering to the code of counseling ethics to speaking the truth in love. Almost a dozen shared really good things to remember. “All these are good,” the prof said, “but I have found in my counseling practice that there is something that must take place before any of these very good things happen. It is this: think big of God and remember what His Word can do! He spoke and the heavens were formed by the power of His Word, according to Psalm 33:5-6. Only the Creator-Redeemer can change the human heart. It will be His Word that will accomplish it. Think big of God and remember what His Word can do.” With that they returned to their study for the rest of the class time.
For today: You don’t have to be a pastor to remember this. Every believer must think big of God and remember what His Word can do!
