“In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, even into His ears” (Psalm 18:6).
David knew his fair share of distressing situations. He found that the Lord truly was everything that He revealed Himself to be. Psalm 18 details some horrifying event that swept into the life of David. We’re not exactly positive which terrifying event is taking place at the time of this writing. We believe that it is one of the times that wicked King Saul and his army had David surrounded. He writes of being afraid (18:4), filled with sorrow (18:5a) and ensnared (18:5b). In this terrible turmoil, David calls upon the Lord. What a simply profound statement. “In my distress I called upon the LORD and cried unto my God.” It may sound too simple to some. But this is exactly what we need to be doing on a daily basis. We need to call on the Lord in the good times as well as bad times. He is our God in the delightful as well as distressing times.
For today: Have you called upon the Lord yet today? If not, then what are you waiting for?
