I have a powerful and precious verse for us to consider today. In fact, over the next few days we will consider it more than once.
“Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD” (Psalm 150:6).
“It’s easy for you to praise the Lord, Kirsten,” Jessica nearly screamed. “Everything always goes well for you. You have friends, you have good grades, your parents can afford braces, you live in a nice house, you have a nice family. No wonder you can praise the Lord in youth group!” she said almost sarcastically as she walked away.
About two hours later, just before fourth period English began in her high school, Jessica walked up to a group of friends who were talking. “The tests show that her cancer is really bad. She is here just for today before starting heavy chemotherapy next week. She’s known for quite some time about it but didn’t want us to worry. She even gave a testimony last Wednesday in youth group about the goodness of the Lord,” one of the girls said.
“Who are you talking about?” with great concern Jessica asked.
“Didn’t you know? We’re talking about Kirsten. She has cancer,” was the answer.
Jessica was stunned. She dropped her books and started crying. More about this tomorrow.
I have seen this truth in operation: Sometimes those who praise the Lord most clearly are in a trial experiencing His peace most dearly.
