“Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3).
How marvelous is our precious Savior! It is a blessing to consider these phrases which the writer describes the majesty and deity of Christ. “The express image of His person” speaks of His exact imprint of God. All human illustrations miserably fail to describe this. However! When I was a child, Silly Putty was the latest and greatest inexpensive toy. I can remember pushing a quarter into the soft putty. The exact imprint of the quarter was easily seen in the Silly Putty.
That’s a poor comparison and falls short, very short, of describing the Lord Jesus and the eternal Godhead. However, it does give us just a tiny bit of the idea of what the writer is telling us. The Lord Jesus is the express image of the eternal Godhead because He is God. Only the Lord Jesus Christ could tell us “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9).
Whatever you and I face today, we face it knowing that Christ holds us in His eternal, mighty arms. I am so glad that I belong to Him. Has there been a time that you have placed your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ?
To know Christ is such a blessing: “For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9). What a wonderful Savior!
