“For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalm 18:28). NKJV

Wicked King Saul was seeking to kill David. Saul’s jealous and wicked anger drove him to the point of desperation in his attempt to kill the most loyal man in Saul’s kingdom. When everything looked hopeless and the worst seemed to be piling up on David, God intervened and delivered him. As a result, David’s heart was overwhelmed and he worshipped the LORD, crying out, “You will light my lamp.” This is an expression in David’s time of how God was making clear His direction through a dark place. God was blessing him, bringing him success and genuine help. How is it with you today? Are you in a difficult place? I can tell you that when you turn to the Lord and give it all to Him, often He doesn’t change your situation overnight. He might not do what you already had figured out for Him to do, but He will indeed “light your lamp.” If you know Jesus as your Savior, He will bring you through the darkness with the light of His Word and His presence. I know this to be true. Honest. It can be the same for you.

For today: Let God light your way. Read His Word. Do what He tells you to do. He will light your lamp.
