“I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me” (John 6:38).
The old pastor tried to be patient with the young pastor who was explaining why he would never consider making a move. The conversation went kind of like this. The old pastor said, “And just why wouldn’t you be willing to go wherever the Lord showed you?” The young pastor didn’t even give much thought. He answered immediately, “I am not willing to consider moving because my salary is good here, my wife likes the parsonage, the kids enjoy their school, and it takes too much effort to pack up a household and move.” The old pastor showed restraint. There was much he wanted to say let alone scream. He rubbed his old weathered cheek and said, “This is between you and the Lord, but let me just remind you what the Lord Jesus said in John 6:38. He said, ‘For I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me.’ Young man, how can you say this when you think of what your Savior did?”
For today: I want to be willing to do whatever the Lord wants me to do. How about you?
