“Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life” (Philippians 2:14-16a).
Yesterday we read about the wonderful truth of the word “workmanship” found in Ephesians 2:10. There the Lord tells His people that He is undertaking a major production in their lives. Quite literally, believers are God’s masterpiece of poetry that He is writing. Now think with me for a moment about the challenge from the Lord for His people to live very differently in the world, which is “crooked and perverse.” We have the great opportunity of shining as lights in a very dark world. For Marty this would be living for the Lord on a college campus. For Jeff it would be living for the Lord on the assembly line of the factory. For David it would be in the way he handled the big rig as he crossed the country on his routes. For Kayleigh it would be the way she cared for her patients in the nursing home. For Emily it would be how she lived in her home with her own family each day. For Duncan it would be how he handled being disabled and taking an early retirement. How will you shine in your corner of this broken world as the Lord’s own child?
For today: May the Lord give us the grace and strength to be gracious and Godly both in our words and actions.
