“Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt Thou give me, seeing I go childless?” (Genesis 15:1-2).
It was a confusing time for Abram, who would come to be renamed Abraham. God had promised him a child and through his seed he would be made a great nation and many blessings through him would come. What a wonderful promise. It must have thrilled Abraham. But the year went by and no child. Then many years went by and no child. The painfulness of disappointment must have gripped Abraham and Sarah. Sam, the young man in our Daily Prescription yesterday, was gripped with confusion. He came from a terrible home life. Now he heard the Word of God and he believed it. He was thrilled to become the Lord’s servant. It is interesting to see Abraham referring to the Lord as “Adonai.” He indeed is the Master, the Owner over all. We entrust ourselves to Him because He is the Lord.
For today: How will this affect you today?
