I can still see that little face lighting up with delight.
I am still in amazement how that little gal put all that away!
Let me tell you about it. For over ten years I traveled throughout the United States every weekend representing The Lord, my sending church and Baptist Church Planters. One such weekend I landed in St. Louis and had about a two-hour drive west to the church where I would be speaking for the weekend.
It was lunch time and I was hungry. Seeing a family restaurant ahead, I decided to eat there. I am so glad that I did! This establishment was apparently known not only for their lunches but especially for their ice cream.
As I was eating my tuna sandwich, a family came in and was seated nearby me. They were celebrating an event that brought them great happiness. The young daughter was told, “Today you may order anything that sounds good to you.” Before my very eyes, this little girl ordered the supersized sundae, which was one of the largest sundaes on the menu. I slowed down eating my tuna sandwich. I had to see this little girl eat her super sundae! When the server placed the sundae in front of her, she couldn’t see over it. But from where I was seated, I could see the expression of sheer pleasure coming over her little face.
Sheer pleasure and delight.
Then it hit me. This was a visual of the Biblical word “pleasure” and I thought of the verse I want to leave with you today. “For the LORD taketh pleasure in His people” (Psalm 149:4).
Still today I remember that look of sheer pleasure, and now I think of the Lord taking pleasure in His people. If you know the Lord as your Savior, isn’t it absolutely amazing to know that the Lord takes pleasure in you?
For today: I need to be careful how I live. I want to enjoy bringing pleasure to the Lord. By the way, if you are interested, yes she did eat every bite of that sundae.
