“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house, and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime” (Daniel 6:10).
Daniel knew that those who hated him were out to get him. If he continued to pray to the Lord His God, he would be in defiance of the terrible edict signed by the king. This probably would result in his death. I am struck. Daniel not only continued in prayer, he continued in open prayer, and it was with thanksgiving! Here he was – taken captive many years before, Daniel lived out his life in a land far from the place that he loved. Now of all things, people in high places plotted his overthrow and defeat. So what did Daniel do? He continued serving, trusting, and giving thanks. I am totally convicted and convinced that I have much to be thankful for, indeed.
For today: Daniel is such an encouragement and challenge to me. I want to be giving thanks before my God today. How about you?
