“Father, the hour is come; glorify Thy Son, that Thy Son also may glorify Thee: As Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as Thou hast given Him” (John 17:1-2).
We enter into some of the most intensely personal and private moments recorded in all of Scripture between the Lord Jesus and His Father. Only hours away from Calvary, the incredible conversation takes place in the Garden of Gethsemane. The hour appointed from eternity past (Acts 2:23) has now arrived. The heart cry of the Lord Jesus was that He would glorify the Father and that the powerful demonstration of the purpose and plan of the Lord would indeed be accomplished. It reminds me of the time that Tom, Dale, Frank and Marvin were eating lunch together at their local diner. “I still think it is just lucky,” Dale said. Frank replied, “Dale, I don’t know about you, but my life is governed not by luck but rather by the Lord. Everything that the Lord Jesus did to make it possible for me to have a relationship with Him results in the settled security of His plan.”
For today: Far better than “luck” is the wonderful assurance that the believer’s life is guided by the Lord.
