“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12-13).
Cliff refused to come to church in person. He did, however, agree to listen to livestream telecast of his friend’s local church. Suffering several severe setbacks and heartaches, Cliff was really confused. He had listened to other TV preachers who proclaimed the audience simply had to claim their best lives yet. Others said that if he had faith enough, God would be obligated to give him the wealth and health he demanded. Of course, he was supposed to send in an offering to them as seed faith. That just didn’t sound like it was true to this young man who was new in the faith. Then Cliff listened to the pastor share from his opened Bible the reality of life in a broken, sinful world. He shared how we find joy even in the midst of heartache by focusing on the Lord Jesus. Cliff turned the TV off that day and prayed, “Lord, finally I am hearing truth. Thank you for your Word. Help me to learn more…”
For today: How are you doing in your trials and hardships? Focus on the Lord. Listen to His Word.
