“I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify Thy name for evermore. For great is Thy mercy toward me: and Thou has delivered my soul from the lowest hell” (Psalm 86:12-13).
The phone call was an emergency. “Chaplain Kenward, this is Lieutenant Knowles. We have a distraught lady who is threatening to harm herself. I have men inside her apartment, but she is holding her little daughter. Can I send a squad car to the office to pick you up and can you help us?” the watch commander asked. “Of course, I’ll be ready.” In no time Pastor Kenward ran from the office, called to the secretary to ask her to call his wife, gather the staff to pray, was out the door and jumping into Charlie unit 822. Lights and sirens cleared the way to get the police chaplain to the scene. He was briefed on the way to give him a heads up as to what he was going to face. I will share with you tomorrow how powerful the great mercy of the Lord is in a crisis as well as in the daily routines of our lives. Mercy! How great is the Lord’s mercy to us!
For today: Have you thanked the Lord for the way He withholds from us what we really have coming?
