“This is my commandment that you love one another, as I have loved you” (John 15:12).
“I think you ought to go to that family conference held at that Baptist church in town,” the divorce lawyer said. “Then when we go to family court in a month, you can tell the judge that you even went to a family conference and it didn’t help. That way you will look like you tried to put some effort into your failed marriage,” the attorney told his young client. So she went to the conference. During the first session she didn’t take any notes and seemed very disinterested. By the second session she seemed much more attentive. She spoke a little with folks at the break for refreshments. By the third session, it seemed like she was soaking up every word. At the conclusion of the day of seminars she told the speaker her story. She told him that she attended because of what her divorce attorney told her. “I came for all the wrong reasons. But I can tell you that God has met me right where I am. I am going home and tear up the divorce papers I had drawn up. There is a lot of work to do in marriage, I know. I am ready to work with the pastor here at this church, and I want to love my husband as Christ loves me.” It was music to the ears of the speaker who was far from home and missing his wife.
For today: How will Christ’s command to love one another as He loved us affect you today?
