“Therefore if any man be in Christ, He is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“Mrs. Messenger, can I talk with you for a couple of minutes after class? Will you have time?” Georgia asked her seventh grade history teacher. “Of course you may, Georgia. Is everything all right?” Mrs. Messenger asked. Tears welled up in her seventh grader’s eyes and all that Georgia could do was shake her head no. Both Georgia and Doris Messenger had a hard time concentrating on the class that day. Finally, the dismissal bell rang, and the rest of the class made their way from the classroom. Georgia was hesitant, but there wasn’t much time. “Mrs. Messenger, you are different from other people I know. I don’t know what there is about you. But you are different. Whatever you have or whatever makes you this way, I want for myself.” What a joy for the history teacher who was a Christian to be able to tell her student, “Since you have asked me, Georgia, I am perfectly free to tell you Who has changed my life and how He can do the same for you.” It was one of many precious conversations with Mrs. Messenger. How about us? Can folks around us see the change in our lives?
For today: We are salt and light in a very needy world. What a privilege.
