“Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away” (Isaiah 51:11).
I have conducted many funerals. Many! One year alone I conducted nearly forty funerals. The local funeral director joked with me one day as we were riding in the hearse on the way to the cemetery. He said, “You do enough funerals with us that we ought to put your name on our sign along with ours!” Many of the funerals I conducted were for families that I had not previously met. I often told them that I was sorry to meet them in these circumstances but that the Lord had brought our lives together for a very special purpose. Gently, because of their sorrow, I would then have the opportunity of sharing the gospel with them. Sorrow and mourning is a deep and piercing pain that sooner or later every person will face. The good news is that for those who trust in the Lord Jesus, a wonderful day is coming. Seven years after the Rapture of the Church, the Lord Jesus is going to rule and reign on the earth. Supreme joy and gladness will be the daily life standard someday. Can you begin to imagine that? What a day that will be.
For today: I am grateful that the Lord helps us in all our sorrows. I am very grateful He has promised that a day of joy and gladness is coming.
