“The just shall live by his faith” (Habakkuk 2:4).
What a grand Old Testament verse! Habakkuk was nearly beside himself with the sinfulness of his society. It didn’t appear to him that God was doing anything about it. God responds that He is going to deal with it by sending an even greater wicked nation to punish Judah. Now nothing was making sense. God simply says that the just do not have to see and understand everything. They simply need to trust. “The just shall live by his faith.” Many years later the writer of Hebrews reminds us “But without faith it is impossible to please Him” (11:6). As I grow older two things are taking place in my life. I want to share them with you tomorrow, but for now think of Habakkuk. He was perplexed with the sinfulness all around him. He was extremely perplexed at God’s answer. He was encouraged as he was reminded to trust the Lord. Oh how we need this today.
For today: Faith does not find its origin in me. It rests upon knowing Him.
