“Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go that we may die with him” (John 11:14-16).
Poor Thomas. The Lord Jesus was on the verge of an awesome and mighty miracle. The disciples would be privileged to see the Lord raise Lazarus from the dead. They would be stunned with the power and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet poor Thomas was so mistaken when he declared, “Let’s go, too, and die with him.” Never could anything be further from the Lord’s intentions. Here is a great lesson for us. When we don’t know what the situation holds, trust the Lord and don’t jump to hasty conclusions. Christ’s mission was resurrection, not getting the disciples killed.
For today: I will do well to quietly trust and obey rather than grumble and complain.
