Selected Notes

Volume 4 Number 42 “An Opportunity Seized. A Testimony Clearly Given”

October 20, 2021

Her cancer was worsening quickly.

The treatments were no longer effective.

We were the last patients that her Oncologist would see that day. He wept with us. Karen was very ill, and it was hard for her to breathe. But I will never forget that late afternoon appointment and how Karen rallied to share her appreciation for his wonderful care and her assurance of where she was going.

Karen shared: “When I was a young girl, I read a little brochure about how to know the Lord Jesus. It showed me how my sin separated me from God and how I could not live with Him because of it. It shared from the Bible how Jesus came to this earth to die on the cross to take my punishment. It told about His resurrection and how only He is the way to Heaven. I asked Him into my life that night. My time here is short but when I die I am going Home to be with Him.”

At this point she was out of breath and through my tears I shared more with our doctor.

The point is: We don’t have to wait until we are ready to enter Hospice to share our testimony. We don’t have to be fearful. We simply share what we know to be true and what the Lord has done for us. Think of what 1 Peter 3:15 states. “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

Michael’s observation: Obviously the testimony of a person who will soon arrive in Heaven is powerful (even if whispered.) But the joyous blessing of sharing our testimony is that God’s Word never returns void but always accomplishes His purpose (Isaiah 55:11). Opportunities will come to you and to me even today. Let’s be ready to seize them even if they are brief.
