Karen spoke at a number of ladies’ retreats and special events. Her material was written for and presented to ladies. For those who are new to “Karen’s Notes,” I find great joy in presenting just a very brief portion of what Karen shared from either her conference notes or her personal Bible study notes. She went Home to be with the Lord in 2017, and yet the things she was working through are very relevant to both men and ladies today.
The theme of this particular retreat was “Peace in Troubled Times.” Last week I shared with you that our goal in life is to have complete confidence in the Lord and to trust Him. Karen concluded this segment of the retreat with three beautiful word pictures to help us to trust Him.
“Thou wilt keep Him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee; because He trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3,4). She then wrote out the verse to read, “Thou wilt keep ME in perfect peace, when MY mind is stayed on Thee; because I TRUST in Thee. I WILL TRUST in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.”
She then took the group to Deuteronomy 10 and shared three beautiful and dynamic word pictures to help them trust the Lord completely.
Karen wrote: Trusting the LORD completely is giving Him His rightful place. There are several reasons why He can be trusted found in Deuteronomy 10:11-22. These will involve His ownership, favor, and faithfulness. Let’s look at the first of these.
Word picture # 1- Think of His Divine Ownership. “Behold the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is” (Deuteronomy 10:14). I like to view His ownership as coming from His heart of love.
He is my Creator. “The earth is the LORD’S and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). He owns everything including even all the animals (Psalm 50:10) and all the wealth (Haggai 2:8).
He is my Redeemer. “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). As my precious Redeemer, He holds the receipt that says, “PAID IN FULL.” As our Creator and Redeemer, He has made wonderful promises to us.
Michael’s observation: I’m sorry to step in right in the middle of this wonderful thought. But that’s it for this week’s edition. Next week, I’ll share with you several of the promises of our Creator and Redeemer that Karen wrote out for this conference seminar. They are good for men and ladies. For now, trust Him. Trust Him completely. Keep your mind stayed, focused, or anchored on Him (Isaiah 26:3-4). Remember His divine ownership!
