May I speak to you about your badge of identification?

Here’s what the Lord Jesus said. “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another” (John 13:34-35).

Some Bible teachers call these verses “The Believer’s Badge of Identification.” I like that description. For many years I was a patrol chaplain in the Binghamton Police Department. I’d gone through the training. I wore a special uniform. I rode in the squad cars and answered calls with the police officers. But there was one thing that identified me beyond all of those other things. It was my badge. It would be the last thing I would put on before I went on duty. It was to be worn and used only when I was on official police chaplaincy business. For a believer, our badge of identification is never to be taken off.

This is so practical and precious. The Lord Jesus clearly told us that the most visible, undeniable, and wonderful way for people to know that we are really His people is the way that we love one another.

For today: That’s it. Make sure that your badge of identification is real and highly visible.
