“Let my mouth be filled with Thy praise and with Thy honor all the day” (Psalm 71:8).

We’ve been camping in the Psalms for the last few days. Are you ready for Day Six? Let’s think about our verse that you’ve already read.

Day One- Psalm 111. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart.
Day Two- Psalm 9. Settle down, child. The Lord is in control.
Day Three- Psalm 25. I need a good guide every day!
Day Four- Psalm 119. Did you bring your flashlight along?
Day Five- Psalm 68. Awesome. There’s no other way of describing Him.
Day Six- Psalm 71. May my life be an open hymn book celebrating the LORD my God!

When the Psalmist wrote about praising the Lord, He actually was declaring that He was going to stay focused on God, be one who consistently praises the Lord for His amazing goodness, and seeks to glorify Him personally.

In short, may we be an open hymnbook that doesn’t ignore our difficulties but still celebrates our God.
He is the object of our trust (71:1).
He is the object of our strength (71:3a).
He is the object of our security (71:3b).
He is the object of our confidence (71:5).
He is the object of instruction (71:16-17).
There’s no other way to put it. He is very great (71:19).

For today: This surely gives us a lot for which to be praising the Lord. May the Lord bless you “fellow open hymnbooks” as we make our way along today.
