Thank you for making “Karen’s Notes” a part of your Wednesday tradition. This is just a little reminder that you do not have to ask permission to share this. As long as you don’t rewrite something, you are welcome to copy it, distribute it, and share it as much as you wish.
Here is something that you might not know about Karen.
Karen was a lover of children. I know that you already knew that. What you might not know is that I had many opportunities to hear Karen in the kitchen with our own children as they worked together and chatted. She loved to seize moments and make them enjoyable teaching moments.
This is how she loved to teach Scripture to our own children as well as the children in her ministries.
I can just hear her saying, “Now stop and think about…” and then she would name the Bible character and say, “Can you imagine what it must have been like?” She was always careful never to add imaginary elements to the Scripture passage. But she would transport our children from our kitchen counter to the place in the Bible, what it would have been like, and how they could relate to that person.
Let me share one of her favorite passages!
“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her” (Luke 1:30-31, 37-38).
I can hear her speaking to her children.
Can you imagine what it must have been like for Mary? Everything she ever dreamed of as a young Jewish girl was just shattered. How could this be? Who would believe her? What about her reputation? How would she explain to her parents and grandparents? How would she explain this to her beloved Joseph?
But she truly believed the angelic message that nothing is impossible with the Lord. Without hesitation she immediately responded by telling the angel that she viewed herself as the handmaid (servant) of the Lord. “Be it unto me according to thy word” was a resounding, “Yes!” Despite all the questions, she immediately said yes because she truly believed that nothing was impossible for the Lord.
Karen wrote this in her journal.
Don’t forget! Nothing shall be impossible for the Lord. What does the knowledge of God’s power mean to me as one of His children? (She then wrote a very brief list.)
Security
Confidence
Peace
Calm
Strength
Excitement-eternity
Expectation
Let me send you on your way with this encouragement.
I don’t know what you are facing. However, I do know that the same Lord who worked out all the details of Mary’s life loves you dearly and wants to lead, guide, and bless your life. You can say, “Yes, Lord,” daily as you read His Word, believe it, embrace it, and apply it to everyday living.
