“I will never leave you, nor forsake you. So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:5-6).
When the Book of Hebrews was written, it was dangerous times indeed. Persecution, wickedness in high places, a broken and sinful culture abounded in the surroundings of those early Christian believers. They were hard days indeed.
These early believers had the wonderful promises of God. By faith they could rest upon and build their lives upon what the Lord promised. Think about the words that the Lord used for them (and us!)
Think of the word “never.” I will never. This word never is ou me (oo may) and is an incredibly strong term for “in no wise, certainly not, not all, by no means.”
Think of the word “leave.” This word leave is aniemi (an-EE-ay-mee) and means “to give up, desert.”
Think of the word “forsake.” This word forsake is egkataleipo (eng-kat-al-I-po) and means ‘To abandon. To leave helpless.”
In times of wickedness surrounding them, difficult besetting them, the Lord promises that He will certainly never, by no means give up on His people. He will never desert them. He will never abandon them and leave them helpless.
Tomorrow we will think of the word “helper!”
Grab hold of this with me today. Let those words sink in. Think of them often today. They were a tremendous help to the believers in those very early days. They are to us in these much later days. Blessings on you dear friend.
