It has been a blessing to me personally as I have been studying and preparing a message for a local church where I will have the privilege of filling in for a dear pastor who will be away over the weekend. I’m developing a message on the topic of “Remembering.” I don’t know about you, but for me, it is very easy to forget things. Apparently I am not alone.
The word “remember” is found 148 times in 144 verses in the Bible. In the book of Deuteronomy, the word “remember” is found 14 times. On the Sunday that I will fill in for my pastor friend, the message will be entitled “Remembering and Rejoicing.” The message has four points to it. Over the next few days, I will share another point of the outline and take you to four wonderful passages in this book of Remembering, Deuteronomy.
Here is the outline we covered so far.
1. Remember God’s grace (Deuteronomy 5:15).
2. Remember God’s greatness (Deuteronomy 7:17-18, 21). Today we come to the third point.
3. Remember God’s guidance. “And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not” (Deuteronomy 8:2).
Imagine what that must have been like in the wilderness. Many Bible scholars believe that the Israelites numbered around 2 million. Think of the food, water, wood for cooking, necessary hygiene all taking place for the years of camping before the second generation would enter the land.
All I can say is, only God could have so led and provided. They had to trust Him, and when they did trust, they discovered over and over again that their faithfully guiding Lord provided in every way.
One more verse for you to take on your way today: “For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death” (Psalm 48:14). Open God’s Word. Read through entire books of the Bible. Cherish His Word. He will use His Word to bring you to the place of His guidance.
May the Lord richly bless you in your worship today on Palm Sunday. How precious is our Savior!
