We close out the month of April together. Thanks for stopping by Dr. Mike’s Daily Prescriptions.
Yesterday we shared about the two men who were discussing the joy of the Lord and the lack thereof on the part of one of the men. No Bible reading, no praying, no singing, no praising, no thankfulness surely added up to no joy for one man.
Think of what the Lord Jesus told us. “These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11).
The older man went on to explain to his friend Charlie (not his real name) the difference between happiness and joy. He explained, “Happiness is the result of things going the way I want them to go. This pleasure results from my circumstances being pleasant and everything going well. Joy on the other hand does not depend on pleasant circumstances. It is built upon a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus and produced by the Holy Spirit, according to Galatians 5:22-23. It is the inner gladness of knowing that we are in the Savior’s hands and He is caring for us no matter what my circumstances are. The Holy Spirit grows this fruit of joy along with the rest of the fruit of the Spirit as we walk with Him.”
So! As we close this month: Let’s be sure to be opening our Bibles, investing time in prayer, singing to the Lord, praising Him and genuinely express our thankfulness to Him.
